Beaver Barracks to be smoke-free
May 26, 2010

At its annual general meeting held Thursday, May 20th, members of the Centretown Citizens Ottawa Corporation (CCOC) voted in favour of a board resolution to designate all of the buildings and the common grounds of the Beaver Barracks development as non-smoking.

CCOC's June 2010 newsletter states "After much discussion at this year's Annual General meeting, CCOC's members voted to reject the smoke free resolution submitted by two tenants.

This resolution proposed that CCOC designate certain floors in our multi-level buildings as non-smoking floors to accommodate all those wishing to live in a smoke-free environment.

The members adopted the alternate resolution recommended by the Board which reads: 'That as a first step in developing a non-smoking policy, CCOC designate all of the buildings and the common grounds of the Beaver Barracks development as non-smoking.

This policy will be reviewed in January 2013.'"

CCOC is a community-based, tenant and member directed non-profit housing organization with a mission to create, maintain and promote housing for low and moderate income people.

CCOC owns and operates a variety of properties in the City of Ottawa that provides housing to over 2,000 residents.

From modest beginnings in 1974, CCOC has grown into one of the largest private non-profit housing corporations in Canada.

When both phases are completed, Beaver Barracks will comprise 248 units, from bachelor apartments to three bedroom stacked townhomes.
